The emotional, social and financial cost of an autoimmune diagnosis can be expensive. Because of this, Without Wings supports a variety of activities. These are designed to help you thrive, not just survive with your diagnosis.

You can apply for up to 2 funding pots in any given period.

If you receive a funding award, please remember to submit all receipts. Without Wings have a public duty to make sure our fund is used as intended. Receipts are therefore required for all services funded.

If you have osteoarthritis and live in the Isle of Man, Arthritis Care Ellan Vannin might be able to help.

Frequently asked questions about funding

In line with our Constitution, you are legally eligible for funding if you fit the following criteria:

  • You are an Isle of Man resident (all applicants).
  • In addition to this, you must be able to provide photographic evidence of an autoimmune diagnosis. This can be found in any specialist letter, like a letter from a rheumatologist. Without Wings are also happy to accept a doctor’s note.

As well as this, you might also be eligible if you can show photographic evidence from your doctor that you fit any of the following criteria:

  • You have started the process of an autoimmune diagnosis.
  • You are the unpaid, live-in carer of a person struggling with an autoimmune diagnosis (certain funding pots only).

Our criteria is taken from our legal constitution. If you find you are not eligible, please take a look at our Useful Links. Here we have tried to source other helpful organisations.

You can apply for up to 2 funding pots in any given period. Remember too, if you wish to apply for on-going support, you’ll need to submit receipts for funded services.

  • If you don’t fit the above criteria (please note, our legal constitution does not support non-autoimmune conditions).
  • If you apply for more than a funding pot’s maximum allowance.
  • If you apply for more than 2 funding pots at a time.
  • If you have already made the full quota of allowable claims in a 12 month period.
  • If you are re-applying for funding and fail to produce receipts for services already funded.
  • If the Trustees have any reason to doubt your claim/ you fail to provide proof of diagnosis, or they have any reason to doubt correct use of funds.
  • If Without Wings simply do not have the funds.

Exemptions:

Occasionally, exemptions apply to a funding pot’s maximum allowance. Examples of these include:

  • If you have a doctor’s support letter or have been referred from social services (you must still fit the autoimmune criteria).
  • If you are applying for someone with an autoimmune diagnosis who is under 18. In both these cases you need to contact us separately to discuss your unique case.

Please note, Without Wings’ constitution is a legal document. It only covers autoimmune conditions and is only available to people in the Isle of Man. All funding awards are confidential, at the discretion of the trustees, and dependent on funding.
